MNI: EUROZONE DATA: Retail Sales (Mar 2019) Review

- EZ retail sales registered at 0.0% m/m & 1.9% y/y in Mar, just above market
expectations of -0.1% m/m & 1.6% y/y
- Feb's m/m figure revised up by 0.1pp to 0.5%, after 0.9% in Jan
- For Q1 on average, sales were up 0.7% q/q, following growth of 0.8% q/q in Q4
- Lithuania (1.7%) & Portugal (1.2%) registered the strongest monthly gains...
- ...while the weakest prints were seen in Slovenia (-3.1%) & Austria (-0.8%)
- After two consecutive rises, non-food product sales declined m/m (-0.4%)... 
- ... but this was offset by a 0.6% rise in food sales (strongest since Oct)
- Fuel sales declined m/m in both Feb (-0.4%) & Mar (-0.6%) after a strong jump
in Jan (1.4%)
- Despite falling back in Apr after rising throughout Q1, consumer confidence
should resume trending higher...
- ... amid positive labour market developments, lower inflation, supportive
credit conditions & fiscal stimulus measures
