MNI Gilt Week Ahead: New MPC Member, PMI, Ofgem price cap

We look at the week ahead's data (PMI highlights), what the Ofgem price cap means for CPI and Taylor's MPC appointment.
  • Domestically the only top tier data this week will be the flash PMI on Thursday (after last week’s slew of UK releases). There is still focus on how much cost price inflation is being passed on to consumers as well as how long the decent growth that we have seen through H1-24 will continue (most analysts remain sceptical the current pace can be sustained into Q3/Q4).
  • In addition to the PMI data we will receive Brightmine wage data, public finance data for July (a big month for self assessment tax payments), CBI industrial trends data and GfK consumer confidence.
  • We look at the upcoming Ofgem price cap announcement due Friday and its impact on inflation.
  • We also look at what the appointment of Alan Taylor as an external member of the MPC means for the balance of the Committee.
