MNI Global Morning Briefing: Michigan Infln Expectations In View

French and Spanish final inflation data will be the standout events in Europe Friday, with the U.S. calendar dominated by second tier releases, with the Michigan sentiment indicator a likely standout.

French inflation (0745 BST)

France final July harmonized inflation is unlikely to see any great revisions from the recent flash data, with the Y/Y number confirmed at 1.6%, slowing from the 1.9% annual rise recorded in June. French CPI will likely be confirmed at 1.2%, down from 1.5% in June.

Spanish inflation (0800 BST)

Spain harmonized inflation will likely be confirmed at 2.9% y/y in July, as the flash suggested, up sharply on the 2.5% recorded in June. On an m/m basis, Spain HICP fell 1.1% in July, flash readings suggested.

Michigan Sentiment Index (1500 BST)

The August sentiment index is seen coming in unchanged on the 81.2 recorded in July, although there are some forecasts suggesting the possibility of a modest upside surprise. Also likely to be closely watched is the survey's inflation expectation survey, which came in at 2.8% in July.

There are no scheduled speeches or appearances from policymakers on Friday.
