MNI Global Morning Briefing: Ifo To The Fore

Friday throws up plenty of data for market observers, with the German Ifo survey and the UK CBI distributive trades data the stand outs.

The Ifo survey, due at 0900BST, will likely see a modest downturn from 99.4 in August to 98.9. However, there is a downside risk of a lower reading following the weaker-than-expected flash PMI data.

Italian consumer and business confidence are expected at the same time, with both seen modestly lower. Consumer confidence is expected to slip to 116.2 to 115.8.

The CBI distributive trades survey will be published at 1100BST, with sales expected to slow from August's 60. The other business survey expected Friday is the BNB monthly survey, expected to show a decline from 7.6 to 6.8.

There are a host of central bank speakers Friday. ECB Executive Board members Philip Lane and Frank Elderson speak, as does BOE MPC member Silvana Tenreyro. Fed speakers include Chairman Powell and Governors Clarida and Bowman. Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester and Kansas City Fed's Esther George also speak.
