MNI Global Morning Briefing: ZEW Survey In Focus

Tuesday sees another quiet European data session, with Norwegian July inflation and the German ZEW survey of investors the main highlights. In the U.S., the non-farm productivity data will be to the fore.

The ZEW survey , due at 1000BST, is expected to see a pick-up in the current conditions index but a fall in the expectations index. With the delta variant still a concern for many European economies, the Expectations index is expected to fall to 55.0 from July's 63.3. The current conditions index is seen recovering to 31.7, up from 21.9 previously, which was the first positive reading in 2 years.

The US calendar sees the non-farm productivity data released at 1330BST, with the headline number expected to decline to 3.5% in Q2, down from Q1's 5.4%.

The Redbook retail sales survey and the NY Fed weekly economic index are also due for release.

With the August holiday season in full swing, the only speakers on the slate for Tuesday include Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester and Chicago Fed President Charles Evans.
