MNI: In a note released on Friday Barclays noted that "there were modest inflows
into EM equity funds and moderate outflows from EM bond funds in the week ending
2 May, especially from EM hard-currency funds. The recent negative turn in flow
momentum has coincided with lacklustre performance in EM assets in recent
months. As equity-rates correlations have turned negative, and EM credit has
been hit by a double whammy of higher rates and wider spreads, concerns have
been raised regarding a negative performance-outflows cycle. While performance
has indeed been weak recently, outflows have been, overall, contained thus far;
it will be important to see if the recent backdrop eventually manifests into
accelerating outflows in the coming weeks."
