MNI BRIEF: China Urges EU To Keep Market Open, No New Barriers

BEIJING (MNI)

China is still pushing for the rest of the world to hold back from erecting fresh trade and investment barriers but continue looking for open markets, particularly in the face of the Covid-19 after-effects, Gao Feng, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce, said at Thursday's regular briefing.

Questioned on plans Brussels has to adopt legislation aimed largely at Chinese telecoms firms, Gao said China sees the EU and its relevant member states planning to introduce restrictive measures, and "it is hoped the European side can abide by the WTO rules, and work with China to promote the healthy and stable development of two-way investment".

Meanwhile, MOFCOM will continue its anti-dumping investigation on Australian wines in strict accordance with law, Gao said, but all rights would be protected. Provisional anti-dumping duty on Australian wines levied since last week, normally won't last over four months, but it can be extended to nine months under special circumstances, said Gao, adding that China will make a final ruling and determine final anti-dumping measures.
