MNI POLICY: China's Liu He Speaks with U.S. on Phase One Deal

MNI (Sydney)

Chinese Vice Premier Liu He spoke to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Tuesday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on its website.

The statement said the two sides had a constructive dialogue on strengthening the coordination of the macroeconomic policies of the two countries, and the implementation of the phase one trade agreement signed in January.

Both sides agreed to create the conditions and atmosphere to continue to promote the implementation of the trade deal.

In the U.S. version of the statement following the meeting, the two sides reportedly discussed China's progress in effecting the "structural change" called for under the agreement, including intellectual property rights protection, significant purchases of U.S. goods, progress in implementing the deal and the two sides' commitment to the deal's success.
