EU: MNI POLITICAL RISK ANALYSIS: European Council July Summit Preview

- The European Council leaders' summit, taking place in Brussels from July

17-18, is intended to allow European Union member state heads of government to

come to an agreement on the amount and structure of a COVID-19 recovery package

and the EU's next long-term budget (the 'multiannual financial framework', MFF).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the last EUCO summit took place on June 19 via

videolink. At that meeting, leaders failed to come to a unanimous agreement,

which is required for the adoption of a recovery fund and the MFF, with the July

special summit called in an attempt to force a deal through. (MNI)
