Macron seeks to put together a new French government; Canada's Trudeau faces confidence vote; UK joins CPTPP

Monday 9 December:
- France: President Emmanuel Macron continues efforts to try to form a new government following the ouster of PM Michel Barnier last week. Macron meets with leaders of the environmentalist Ecologist group and the far-left Communists at the Elysee Palace in an effort to bring together a workable majority. There is no set deadline for installing a new government (Barnier’s cabinet remains in place in a caretaker capacity), but the requirement to pass a 2025 budget before year-end is looming.
