MNI SOURCES: UK, EU Close In On Post-Brexit Deal

The EU and the UK seemed to be closing in on a post-Brexit trade agreement on Wednesday, though EU sources cautioned that a deal was still not in the bag.

The UK, which has already dialed back its calls for steep reductions in the EU share of its fisheries, has moved even closer to the EU position, a source with links to both negotiating teams said, pointing to issues including pelagic fish and the UK's 12-nautical mile territorial limit. And UK calls to be allowed to import Chinese batteries for electric cars may be granted, the source said.

Impediments to a deal, which have included level playing field rules and the mechanism for enforcing a deal as well as fisheries, no longer exist, a source close to the UK side said.

But an EU source told MNI that while things were moving, there was no deal yet. An EU diplomat said a deal was still not done.

"I would stay prudent, as the latest update tells me that things remain difficult, with the three issues still on the table," the diplomat said
