U.S. durable goods new orders spiked in May by 15.8% after a -18.1% decline in
April that was largest percent decrease since 2015. Transportation equipment new
orders surged by 80.7% in May following a -48.6% drop in April. Excluding
transportation, new orders were up +4.0%. Defense capital goods new orders rose
+19.9% and defense aircraft orders increased +6.0%. Excluding defense, new
orders were up +15.5%. A m/m percent change was not given for nondefense
aircraft orders because the denominator has a negative value.
