MNI: ZEW Survey (Sep 2019) Preview - 10:00BST 17/9/19
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ZEW Survey expected to remain weak but see a small pick-up in confidence.
- CURRENT SITUATION (CS) expected to fall to its lowest level since May 2010.
- Bloomberg Consensus: -15.0; Prev (Aug): -13.5
- The CS index has trended downwards since the beginning of 2018, but still
surprised to the downside in Aug, dropping to a nine-year low.
- ECONOMIC SENTIMENT (ES) is forecast to edge up by 6.1 pts
- Bloomberg Consensus: -38; Prev (Aug): -44.1
- The ES index slumped to the lowest level since Dec 2011 last month, indicating
firms' concerns regarding unresolved global uncertainties.
- The more timely Sentix index improved slightly in Sep (up 0.9pts to -12.8)
after reaching an 11-year low in Aug.
- External developments continue to create risks for the export-oriented German
economy, hence a sustained recovery in confidence is unlikely in the near term.
