Moldova's Transdniestria region started cutting gas supplies to several state institutions on Dec. 29 ahead of a halt to Russian gas transit via Ukraine at year end, according to Reuters.

  • Gas distribution company, Tiraspoltransgaz, said 12 state institutions were cut off.
  • Gazprom said it would suspend gas exports to Moldova from 0500 GMT on Jan. 1 due to unpaid debt by Moldova although Moldova disputes the allegations of arrears.
  • A state of emergency in the Moldovan and Transdniestria energy sector are in place, including measures to reduce power consumption at peak hours, due to the uncertainties over Russian supply.
  • Moldova has urged Gazprom to consider supply via the TurkStream pipeline and the Trans-Balkan link as a possible alternative route for Russian supply.
