More Mexican Barrels Expected Available in May

OIL

Refinery outages in Mexico leave more barrels available for export in May, after prior plans to direct them towards domestic refinery ramp ups.

  • Crude exports from Mexico have been slipping since Q4 of last year as Pemex refineries aim to support Mexican independence from oil product imports as part of departing President AMLO’s ambitions.
  • Pemex is reversing crude exports cuts of at least 330,000 bpd planned for May amid smaller-than-expected oil demand by the company's domestic refineries Reuters reported in late April.
  • As of late April, Pemex' refineries were processing about 868,000 bpd of crude, according to a Reuters source, adding that all facilities were in service. In March, oil processing averaged 1.06 million bpd according to official figures.
