New mortgage approvals rose to 65,139 in November from 64,887 in 
October but below the previous 6m average of 66,562. The rise in 
approvals in Nov followed three successive falls and October's outturn 
which was the lowest since Sep 16. Secured lending growth also nudged 
up, coming in at stg3.499 and below its 6m trend of stg3.7bn. Elsewhere, 
it was a similar story with the take up of unsecured credit which also 
rose moderately. Effective interest rates on secured new business rose 
to 1.99% in Nov, the highest since August.
