LNG

Most of India’s LNG import terminals are underutilised as capacity expands faster than demand, according to the Economic Times.

  • Of the seven LNG terminals in India, three have operated below 20% capacity and a further three have been below 40% capacity during the first half of the current fiscal year (April-Sep).
  • Some terminals are also affected by inadequate pipeline networks connecting them to demand centres.
  • While LNG capacity has doubled since 2015 to 46m mtpa, gas consumption has increased just 23% over that period, the Economic Times said.
  • LNG capacity is expected to continue rising to 65m mtpa.
