Most Units at Total Port Arthur Refinery Shut

REFINING

The TotalEnergies Port Arthur 238kb/d refinery shuts most units due to a turnaround combined with unplanned shutdowns and flarings. The outages have left TotalEnergies SE’s Port Arthur refinery on the Texas Gulf Coast with only two process units running according to Bloomberg sources.

  • The planned turnaround to replace the reactor core on the 80k b/d FCC started on 18 Aug and was due to last 65-70 days but could now take longer and add to tighter Gulf Coast product supplies.
  • The turnaround also includes the smaller of 2 crude units, ACU-2, its companion VDU and other units in the Residual Process Complex.
  • Several weeks of repairs are required to the biggest crude unit, ACU-1, and its VDU, after a thin pipe was found while the sole coker was also shut until ACU-1 is back in operation according to a Bloomberg source.
  • Only a catalytic reformer and a unibon unit are currently in operation.
