Most Voters Expect Tighter Fiscal Policy, Morawiecki Lobbies MPs To Back Push For EU Funds

  • Four in five respondents in a BusinessInsider survey said they would like the government to tighten fiscal policy with just 8% against. Most of those who responded affirmatively would prefer the government to cut spending rather than raise taxes. The two areas where they would like to see cuts are the church fund and public media. Both are relatively small parts of the budget, each costing ~PLN2bn pa.
  • GW reports that Prime Minister Morawiecki has recently participated in several meetings with ruling party lawmakers on talks with Brussels re: National Recovery Plan. In a series of improvised meetings, the Premier reportedly tried to persuade his MPs that EU funding is critical in ensuring that Poland retains adequate liquidity.
  • The Premier said his government could accept Germany's offer to relocate its Patrot missile system to Poland, if Berlin does not agree to donate the missiles to Ukraine. Rhetoric from Morawiecki and President Andrzej Duda contrasts with more combative comments from ruling party leader Kaczynski, who insisted that a missile system operated by a German crew in Poland would have "no military or political advantages."
