MPC speakers today and this week (2/2)

BOE
  • Tomorrow will see the Treasury Select Committee appointment hearing for new MPC member Megan Greene. She is due to join the MPC following the June meeting and will replace Tenreyro. She is expected to be more hawkish than Tenreyro, but the TSC hearing will be the best indication yet as to where Greene sits on the hawk-dove spectrum.
  • In the afternoon tomorrow, Governor Bailey will testify ahead of the Lords EAC on “How is independence working?” He may field some questions on current monetary policy, but it will not be the overarching theme of the appearance.
  • Finally tomorrow, dove Dhingra will give a speech at Manchester Metropolitan University. Given she has dissenter in favour of no change at each of her monetary policy meetings since joining the MPC, even if she intimates that she would vote for a cut we wouldn’t expect to see much of a market reaction. In contrast, if she suggests that she would vote for a hike, it would have much more market impact.
  • Cunliffe will conclude MPC member appearances on Thursday but he is unlikely to discuss monetary policy.
