Multiple January Polls Show Turks Favouring an Opposition Alliance

  • Multiple January polls show Turks now favour an opposition alliance over the ruling People’s alliance: Metropoll, Sosyo Research & ORC Research.
    • Metropoll cited Erdogan approval at 38.6%, trailing three rivals & opposition coalition support at 36.7% vs 35.4% for the AKP-MHP. Sosyo research put AKP support at 37% + 6.3% for the MHP vs 22.9% for the CHP + 10.3% for IYI & 9.4% for HDP.
    • ORC showed AKP-MHP support at 38.7%, lagging CHP-IYI support at 39.5% & HDP at 8.4%. Erdogan approval fell to 38% vs 60% for CHP’s Yavas, 51% for Imamoglu & 38.5% for ITI’s Aksener
  • Opposition Future party say 40 AKP deputies are speaking with the party, acknowledging that the AKP is being run badly and cannot win elections in 2023
  • IYI’s Aksener says the new economy model has made the economy more fragile, calling on the government to take steps to reverse the inflation-devaluation spiral
