N. Korea Says It's Ready To Deploy Nuclear Deterrence

Wires run comments from North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, who threatened to mobilise nuclear deterrence if needed and said Pyongyang was ready for any military confrontation with its enemies.

  • In a speech marking the 69th War Victory Day, Kim warned that South Korea's new administration and its military would be "annihilated" if they made any "dangerous attempts," adding that his troops were "thoroughly prepared" for a conflict with the U.S. or any other security crisis.
  • There has been talk of North Korea making material preparations for a nuclear test over the past few months. South Korea and its allies have issued repeated warnings that the drill would entail firm response, with Seoul's chief diplomat threatening sanctions against North Korea's cyberattack capabilities.
