  • Nomura strategists "expect a slight easing of the NAHB housing market index by 1pp to 85 in January considering rising concerns over affordability. Demand appears to have remained strong through early January with a high volume of mortgage applications for purchase. However, a shortage of available new homes for sale has led to steep acceleration in home price appreciation in recent months. In addition, homebuilders have expressed concerns over rapidly rising construction costs which may have weighed on builder sentiment."
