NATGAS: EU Energy Ministers Discuss Supply Security on Tuesday

EU ministers met on Tuesday morning to discuss the regions rising LNG imports from Russia and Ukrainian energy storage ahead of winter.
- France and nine other countries asked the European Commission on Monday to propose stricter reporting obligations on Russian LNG for storage companies and suppliers.
- "Belgium will file and we will support an initiative to ban and track LNG imports from Russia more structurally," Kai Mykkanen, Finland's climate and environment minister said ahead of the meet.
- The contract between Ukraine and Russia for gas flows via Ukraine is due to end in December – a supply source Slovakia and Austria still depend on.
- The Commission will update countries on Tuesday on efforts to extend the Russia-Ukraine pipeline deal. Ukraine has so far maintained no intent to extend the deal.
- The EU energy meeting press conference is expected for later on Tuesday but timings are so far unclear.
- Ukrainian gas stockpiles of 12.2bn cubic meters are sufficient to last through the winter heating season, Prime Minister Shmyhal said on Tuesday.
