NATGAS: Gas Remains Energy Markets’ Primary Concern: Axpo

NATGAS

Gas remains the “primary concern” as energy markets enter a phase of heightened uncertainty, Switzerland-based energy trader Axpo said Oct. 10, cited by Platts.

  • In a market outlook, Axpo said that the gas market remained “fragile” despite storage sites being almost full, with the risk of a rapid depletion of stocks looming.
  • "Gas remains the primary concern, particularly as the ability of Europe to secure enough LNG cargoes is in question as global demand intensifies," the outlook said.
  • Despite high European gas storage, concerns have also increased about the ability to sustain this throughout winter amid lower LNG availability.
  • Axpo said LNG cargoes had been increasingly diverted to Asia markets where demand will likely rise during a colder winter.
  • Axpo also said that Egypt is now in direct competition with Europe for LNG cargoes, further tightening the market.
