NATGAS: German Gas Consumption Fell 0.9% in Week to Sep. 22

German natural gas consumption in the week to Sept. 22 fell 0.9% from the previous week and was 16.9% below the 2018-21 average, Bnetza data showed. Industrial demand edged down by 1.1% from the previous week while demand from households and small businesses was unchanged on the week.

  • Industrial gas consumption fell to 1120GWh/d last week compared to 2023 levels of 1031GWh and 17.5% below the 2018-21 average. Gas consumption from electricity generation is also included in the data.
  • Demand from households and small businesses was unchanged at 359GWh/d last week, compared to 261GWh/d in 2023 and 14.9% below the 2018-21 average.
  • German gas demand stood 11.3% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany are up to 96.04% full on Sept. 28 from 95.72% a week earlier amid below normal daily injection rates since Aug. 25
