NATGAS: German Gas Consumption Rises 8.8% in Week to Sept. 1

German natural gas consumption in the week to Sept. 1 increased 8.8% from the previous week and was 20.5% below the 2018-21 average, Bnetza data showed. Industrial demand rose 11.5% from the previous week but demand from households and small businesses was down 4%.

  • Industrial gas consumption rose to 1092GWh/d last week compared to 2023 levels of 1079GWh and 15.5% below the 2018-21 average. Gas consumption from electricity generation is also included in the data.
  • Demand from households and small businesses fell to 193GWh/d last week, compared to 266GWh/d in 2023 and 32.3% below the 2018-21 average.
  • German gas demand stood 22.8% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany are up to 95.40% full on Sept. 7 from 95.23% a week earlier amid below normal daily injection rates.
