NATGAS: German Gas Demand Rises 7.95% in Week to Nov. 24

German natural gas consumption in the week to Nov. 24 increased 7.95% from the previous week but now 6.9% below the 2018-21 average, Bnetza data showed. Industrial demand fell by 3.2% from the previous week after surging higher in early November. Demand from households and small businesses followed the season trend higher with another 22.5% rise on the week.

  • Industrial gas consumption fell to 1,804GWh/d last week compared to 2023 levels of 1,716GWh and 8.9% below the 2018-21 average. Gas consumption from electricity generation is also included in the data.
  • Demand from households and small businesses was up to 1,741GWh/d last week, compared to 1,582GWh/d in 2023 and 4.6% below the 2018-21 average.
  • German gas demand stood 3.8% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany are down to 92.22% full on Nov. 26 from 94.42% a week earlier but net withdrawal rates have fallen back below previous five year average levels since Nov. 24.
