Nationals Recover In Polls Under New Leader At Expense Of ACT

NEW ZEALAND

A new poll commissioned by the right-leaning Taxpayers' Union showed that the main opposition National Party recovered under the leadership of Christopher Luxon, but its gains came at the expense of potential coalition partner ACT, while the Labour-Green alliance remained well ahead.

  • The poll put Nationals on 32.6%, up 6.4pp from a month ago, with ACT falling 5.3pp to 10.6%. Labour was little changed at 39.5%, while the Greens added 2.3pp landing at 10.9%.
  • If these results are anything to go by, Labour would win 49 seats and the Greens would win 14, giving them the ability to form governing coalition.
  • Jacinda Ardern tops the ranking of most preferred Prime Ministers with the backing of 39.1% of voters. Luxon was picked by 20.4% of respondents, but he outperformed both ACT leader Seymour and previous National leader Collins. Luxon also has a marginally better net favourability rating than Ardern.
