NBP To Announce Rate Decision, Opposition Parties Discuss Joint Election List

POLAND
  • The NBP will announce its monetary policy decision on the conclusion of its two-day meeting today, with no fixed time of the release. The central bank is universally expected to keep interest rates unchanged (see our comprehensive preview here). Governor Adam Glapinski will hold his press conference tomorrow at 14:00GMT/15:00CET and his rhetoric will be eyed for any change in stance.
  • Pre-election horse trading between opposition parties continue. According to Onet sources, PSL and Polska 2050 parties are discussing contesting the autumn election as a single bloc. Meanwhile, Gazeta Wyborcza reported that Donald Tusk, leader of the main opposition Civic Platform, is refusing to engage in any talks unless other leaders publicly declare their intention to create a joint list with his party. The latest opinion poll for DGP/RMF FM showed that a single opposition bloc could receive 46%% of the vote, while the combined support for three separate opposition lists would be almost 50%.
  • PAP newswire reported that German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius will touch down in Poland today for an in-person meeting with his local counterpart Mariusz Blaszczak. The details of the meeting have not been made public and it is unclear if the two defence czars will speak to the media.
