NBP Will Not Rise Rate If Policy CPI Peaks This Summer

  • NBP Governor Glapinski mentioned at his press conference that the NBP will not hike rates if Polish CPI peaks this summer, adding that policymakers expect inflation to peak in summer months.
  • However, the central bank could continue its tightening cycle if inflation continues to surprise positively in the near term.

  • Glapinski also said that Poland may enter a 'technical recession' as the economic activity may slow sharply in the coming quarters.
