NDZ Lines Up to Take On Ramaphosa for ANC Leadership

  • Following the upgraded intensity of load-shedding over the weekend, News24 write that the power station at the heart of the issue is now posing a significant long-term risk of further power cuts. The piece writes that the unit at the Koeberg nuclear power plant has now been offline for more than a week, despite numerous projects undertaken to extend the life of the generator.
  • After ticking higher to stage 4 load-shedding over the weekend, powercuts are to continue, but have been downgraded to stage 3 from 05:00 today, after which it will be reduced to State 2 on Tuesday, to remain in place until Friday. Eskom are to hold a media briefing later today on the current issues.
  • Confirmation came this morning that the government would hold their mid-term budget on October 26th.
  • Daily Maverick write about the upcoming leadership battle for the ANC, with Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma once again looking to take on Ramaphosa for the top job. NDZ’s spokespeople confirmed this weekend that she would accept nominations.
