Net Buys Rebound Despite Large Covered Bond Redemptions

ECB net asset purchases rebounded in the week ending Jan 28, at a 2-week high of E22.1bln, vs E13.4bln the previous week.

  • This included E4.7bln in net PEPP purchases, vs E10.3bln the prior week, and the highest in 7 weeks. PSPP purchases picked up sharply (by E7.3bln vs prior week), though covered bond, CSPP and ABS purchases each saw slowdowns.
  • Note that CBPP3 saw E4bln in redemptions (easily the biggest weekly total yet); PEPP saw E2.7bln.
