Netanyahu Seen As Best Suited To Be PM For Plurality Of Voters

ISRAEL

Latest poll by Maagar Mohot shows former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu retains the support of a plurality of respondents when asked who they see as the best suited to be PM among the party leaders, ahead of incumbent Israeli PM Naftali Bennett by a margin of 46% to 14%.

  • Maagar Mohot poll: Who do you think is most suited to be Prime Minister?: Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud, Conservative): 46%, Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid, Liberal): 28%, Naftali Bennett (Yamina, Right): 14%, Benny Gantz (Blue & White, Centrist): 8%, Gideon Saar (New Hope, Conservative): 4%. Fieldwork: 15 July 2021. Sample size: 500
  • It should be noted that a small sample size of 500 does give a wider margin for error, but the 18% lead for Netanyahu over Foreign Minister Yair Lapid of the centrist Yesh Atid party is demonstrative of how deeply politically divided Israel remains.
  • The poll will also come as a blow to Bennett, who comes in a distant third place as the person Israeli's see as best suited to be PM. The broad coalition put together by Bennett and Lapid, including Bennett's right-wing Yamina party, the Islamist Ra'am party, environmentalist Meretz, and centre-left Labor party holds a majority of just one seat in the Knesset and remains extremely vulnerable to collapse.
