New ANC NEC To Consider Disciplinary Action Against Defiant MPs

News24 reports that the new ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) to be elected at the upcoming party conference will deliberate disciplinary measures against the five MPs who defied party line and voted in favour of the Section 89 panel report.

  • Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Mervyn Dirks, Mosebenzi Zwane, Supra Mahumapelo and Thandi Mahambehlala backed launching impeachment proceedings against President Ramaphosa, albeit Mahambehlala later attempted to change her vote to "no".
  • According to News24, the decision to refer the case to the incoming NEC was taken during a special meeting of the Committee today. ANC acting Secretary General Masathile said that members who voted for the Section 89 panel report "will have to go and express that view to the disciplinary committee."
