LNG: New Plaquemines LNG Supply Could Help Meet European demand

Incremental increases in LNG supply from new US projects, including Plaquemines LNG, will help to continue to satisfy European demand and should support domestic US gas prices, S&P Global said.

  • European LNG imports could be supported by the expected end of the Russia-Ukraine gas transit agreement at year-end.
  • Current US export terminal feedgas is supported by the startup of the Plaquemines LNG facility taking the US total to 14.33bcf/d today, Bloomberg shows. Venture Global LNG said Dec. 26 that it has shipped its first commissioning cargo from the facility headed to Germany.
  • New Plaquemines contracts for long-term buyers include additional clauses to mitigate any of the same risks that off-takers experienced with the Calcasieu Pass, several S&P Global sources said.
