New York Gasoline Imports Rise as Lower Pump Prices Support Demand

New York gasoline imports are increasing as US gasoline demand has climbed to the highest level since December 2021 at the start of the summer driving season.

  • New York has imported gasoline and blending components at the fastest pace since August 2019 of around 470kbpd of so far in June according to Kpler data. Cargoes are arriving from Europe, Canada, Saudi Arabia, India and Brazil.
  • Lower regular gasoline pump prices down at about $3.59/gal compared with a a record high of $5/gal a year ago according to AAA data are helping support the start of summer demand. The weekly EIA four week finished gasoline supplied data has seen a steady increase in line with the seasonal trend since a low in mid Jan.
  • Central Atlantic Coast region gasoline inventories have recovered from a record seasonal low while refinery outages have been high during H1 2023 and the Colonial Pipeline supply to New York Harbor from Gulf Coast has been fully booked for months.
