AUSTRALIA

The latest Newspoll for The Australian from October 31 to December 15 shows that the incumbent Federal government is ahead on a two-party preferred basis at 52:48, in line with its May 2022 election result, but is struggling in some key areas. Its primary vote is now behind the opposition Coalition in NSW and amongst women. The next election is due in H1 2025.

  • The Coalition is ahead with 36% compared with Labor on 34% but in NSW it is 37% vs 32%. The Greens have 13% support.
  • Amongst 34-59 year olds the two-party preferred split has moved to 53:47 in favour of the government from 56:44. It also deteriorated for 50-64 year olds.
  • 36% of female voters now support the Coalition compared with 30% for Labor, which may reflect the ongoing cost-of-living pressures. 37% of male voters support Labor with 36% for the Coalition.
  • PM Albanese remains ahead as preferred PM at 46% compared with Opposition leader Dutton on 35%. In terms of net satisfaction though the two are in line.
