Nigeria Detects Possible Leak At Oil Pipeline

OIL

Nigeria's oil production is facing another challenge following the discovery of a possible leak on Shell’s Trans Niger oil pipeline on 18 August, a Shell spokesperson said.

  • The 180,000kbpd pipeline is one of two conduits that export Bonny Light crude.
  • "We are working with the community and other stakeholders to ensure we can safely look into and resolve this situation," spokesperson Bola 'Salt' Essien-Nelson said.
  • Nigeria is planning to increase Bonny Light crude exports to 155kbpd in August, which would be the highest level since April 2021.
  • This incident is coming after Nigeria resumed the export of around 220kbpd of crude oil at the Forcados terminal. The terminal was shut for maintenance on July 12 following a leak.
