Nigeria Plan to Increase Gas to Europe

Nigeria hopes to increase supplies to Europe by 2023 although security issues are delaying the delivery of more LNG.

  • Nigeria’s Oil Minister said they are building a gas pipeline through Algeria that will send gas directly to Europe.
  • Nigeria told the EU in July they were improving security in the Niger Delta with the Bonny Island LNG terminal only operating at 60% capacity due to theft and vandalism. They planned to re-open the Trans Niger pipeline after August to increase gas exports to Europe.
  • The EU imports 14% of its total LNG supplies from Nigeria.
