Nigeria Runs Short of Fuel as Small Supply Ships Get Blocked

OIL PRODUCTS

Nigeria is running short of fuel due to logjams that have taken tiny shuttle tankers out of action, the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria said, cited by Bloomberg.

  • “Having seven shuttle vessels out of use at this point in time makes the logistics extremely difficult,” said Clement Isong, chief executive of the group.
  • “One vessel got stuck on Escravos going to Warri and the effect of that was that it locked up four vessels inside, making five,” he said. “Another two went to deliver the product and one of those two got stuck again.”
  • Isong did not say when the issues may be resolved.
  • In the longer term, Nigeria is looking to become a net exporter of gasoline when the 650k b/d Dangote refinery hits full capacity. The refinery is currently readying two units for gasoline output but may not be up and running until year end.
