Nigeria Want Oil Security as Output Hit by Theft

Nigeria’s oil output fell to 1.43mbpd in Q2 2022, the lowest quarterly production since 2016, according to the nation’s statistics agency. July output has dropped even further to 1.2mbpd.

  • The government blame the fifth consecutive quarterly decline in output on oil theft and vandalism.
  • In July Nigeria’s production target quota from OPEC+ was 1.799mbpd.
  • The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and CEO of NNPC said that the country loses 400kbpd via oil theft.
  • Nigerian security services have tried to scale up the battle against oil theft in bid to restore production reporting they have recovered 3.75mbbls of stolen crude. Nigeria is looking to implement Saudi Aramco’s oil security architecture according to CEO of NNPC.
