Nigeria’s Dangote Boosts Gasoil Exports within WAF: Reuters

OIL PRODUCTS

Nigeria’s 650k b/d Dangote refinery is boosting gasoil exports to WAF, taking market share away from European refiners, Reuters said.

  • Exports of gasoil hit around 0.1m b/d, nearly double April levels, according to Kpler. Most of the exports went to other WAF countries.
  • Preliminary gasoil volumes for June gave fallen sharply, although overall product exports remain around 225k b/d.
  • The refinery is producing a lower quality grade of gasoil than expected as it awaits a restart of units needed to produce cleaner fuels.
  • Nigeria passed a law mandating a 50ppm limit on sulphur in 2021 but has been allowing up to 200 ppm for local sales.
  • EU and UK gasoil exports to WAF hit a four year low of 29k b/d in May, Kpler said.
  • A tightening of gasoil specifications for export from the ARA has allowed Dangote’s higher sulphur cargoes to find homes in regions with more relaxed regulations.
