No LNG Vessels Currently Transiting Suez Canal: Kpler

LNG

There are currently no LNG vessels transiting the Suez Canal amid heightened tensions off the coast of Yemen according to Kpler.

  • A typical day would normally show 2-3 LNG tankers pass the passage.
  • A noticeable increase has been seen in LNG vessels using the longer Cape of Good Hope route. At least 11 ships have taken the route round Africa instead of the Red Sea since Jan 15 including at least four Qatari shipments headed for Europe.
  • The market has not priced in an escalation for now. “I don’t see a sudden pick-up of gas prices unless it becomes a regional conflict. Absolutely there is a risk there, but I don’t think there is a risk premium on gas prices at the moment,” said Laura Page at Kpler via Montel.
