No Sign Of Supreme Court "Dobbs" Ruling Boosting President Biden's Approval

US

Since the release of the Supreme Court "Dobbs" ruling, analysts have been watching closely to see if fallout will improve Democrats' chances at the midterm elections in November.

  • There have been early signs that the Democrat House representatives will benefit from the ruling. The generic congressional ballot has tightened since Friday on the release of 3 new polling reports but there has yet to be a significant polling trend to suggest a major swing away from the GOP, who remains in a commanding position on the economy and inflation.
  • Democrat strategists will be concerned that the SCOTUS ruling appears to have done little to reverse the approval slide of President Biden. The four most recent presidential approval polls on Real Clear Politics all give Biden an approval below 40%.
  • This suggests that Biden's speech opposing the SCOTUS decision on Friday and subsequent pledges to push for legislation of Roe have done little to convince the electorate to sideline concerns over the economy.
