Norway Could Feasibly Add 31GW of PV On Buildings

POWER

Norway could “technically” install around 87GW of PV on buildings, with 31GW feasibly able to be connected to the Norwegian grid, data from Multiconsult show, cited by PV Magazine.

  • Integrating up to 36%, or 31GW, of PV capacity allows for a smooth and stable incorporation of solar power into the grid, according to the paper.
  • Exceeding this capacity leads to an oversupply of power into grid – especially during summer peak months- which leads to losses and the need for exports.
  • Norway's total installed solar capacity hit 661MW in May 2024, following a record year for solar deployment in 2023, with an additional 300MW.
