Norway’s Hydro Stocks Widen Surplus To Average To Highest This Year

Norwegian hydropower reserves increased by 3.8 percentage points on the week to 77.6% of capacity, or 67.77TWh, as of 15 August, widening the surplus above the seasonal norm to the highest so far this year, NVE data showed.

  • Hydropower stocks widened the surplus to the five-year average to 4.73 percentage points, compared with 1.56 percentage points a week earlier. Stock stood above the seasonal norm for the fifth consecutive week.
  • Overall hydropower output declined last week on the week. Hydro pumped storage output rose by 21MW to 57MW, while hydro run-of-river generation increased by 177MW to 3.66GW. Average hydro water reservoir output declined by 1.33GW to 8.43GW. At the same time, onshore wind output rose by an average of 790MW to 1.51GW, data from Entso-E showed.
