Norwegian Hydro Stocks Widened Deficit to Average

Norwegian hydropower reserves fell by 2.4 percentage points last week to 73.9% of capacity as of 29 November, widening the deficit to the five-year average to the highest since mid-May, NVE data showed.

  • Stocks widened the deficit to 4.45 percentage points last week, compared with 3.2 points a week earlier.
  • Hydropower output in Norway fell last week on the week. Output from reservoirs fell by 1.78GW to 14.47GW. This was partly offset by higher onshore wind output that rose by 572MW on the week to 1.96GW, Entso E data showed.
  • Weather forecasts suggest little precipitation in the hydro-intensive region of Vestland, limiting flows into reserves.
