NYC Mayor Asks Gov. To Postpone Reopening As NJ Pauses Amid COVID Surge

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has asked New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to delay the unwinding of COVID-19 restrictions amid fears of a new wave of infections in the city.

  • Comes as governor of neighbouring New Jersey Phil Murphy announced a pause to the unwinding of restrictions in the Garden State. On Friday the state increased capacity at restaurants, gyms, salons, and other recreational facilities, and doubled the number of individuals allowed at indoor or outdoor gatherings to 25 and 50 respectively. However, speaking to CNN, Murphy stated "We won't be opening further capacities for some time now. We want to do this safely and responsibly, we don't want to have to go back."
