FOREX: NZD climbs in sanguine session with greenback slightly soft
-NZD sits at the top of the pile to start the week as last Friday's NFP
continues to underpin risk sentiment. A dearth of price action elsewhere and
newsflow across G10 is helping extend the move which may fade ahead of the NY
open. NZD/USD touched the best levels in a fortnight at $0.7323 and has shown
little signs of a pullback so far.
-GBP trades well, gaining against both the USD mainly in a short, sharp leg
higher in early Europe. Again, no news appears to be good news in a quiet start
to the week.
-JPY has had a slightly more exciting session as USD/JPY retreated from the Y107
handle on fears Abe's government could lose their finance minister over an
ongoing political scandal surrounding Aso. As a result, JPY gained on
uncertainty over the future of Abenomics.
-The calendar remains quiet with little on the docket until tomorrow's US CPI
figures.
